Our opening hours are as follows:

House, Chapels, Gardens & Exhibitions
Daily, 11am – 4pm 

Welby’s Café
Daily, 11am – 3pm

Dogs are welcome to our Gardens and Parkland, however they must remain on a lead in some areas. 

  • Dogs on leads or under control at all times (Bounds Cafe area, Ornamental Gardens, drives and access roads)
  • Dogs may be permitted off leads prior and after opening times or when the Bounds is empty (The Bounds)
  • Dogs may be off leads (Meadow)

Unfortunately, dogs are not permitted inside our Main House & Chapels.

No pre-booking is required for day visits. You can simply get your tickets at our Visitor Centre upon arrival.

It is important to us that our House and Gardens can be enjoyed by everyone.

We have Accessible Parking spaces next to the entrance with 24 hours access. We also provide a wheelchair friendly entrance to all our buildings including our chapels, tearoom, theatre and exhibition spaces.  

Our Ornamental Gardens have pathways that are suitable for wheelchairs and other walking aides.

We do offer free entry for those who are registered carers. Proof of identification will be required.

Welby’s is open 11am-3pm daily. Serving a selection of hot drinks, cakes, sandwiches, pastries & salad options.

Annual Membership or a Day Pass is required to enter Welby’s.

Please be aware, during quiet times we may not have all items displayed on the menu available. 

We are working very hard to make Ushaw a wonderful place for all, to enhance people’s lives through heritage, culture and creative experiences.

Ushaw is an independent Charity funded only through donations, entrance fees, legacies and commercial operations, it is a self-sustaining charitable estate, independent of church or government funding. Our team takes care of Ushaw’s Grade 1, 2 and 2* listed buildings, with running costs of over £1million per annum.

Your contributions through admissions and memberships help us to maintain Ushaw’s buildings and grounds for the enjoyment of everyone.

An Ushaw Annual Pass includes the following:
  • Unlimited entry for 12 months, access to our glorious gardens and grounds + stunning interiors of Ushaw
  • Entry to The Refectory Café
  • An array of outdoor events throughout the year
  • Live music at ‘Sounds on the Bounds’ 
  • Variety of exhibitions, children’s trails, children’s games and activities
  • Free parking

Please collect your Annual Pass at our Visitor Centre upon arrival.

If you haven’t received an email confirmation, please let a member of the team know your name and email address to find your order.  

Please use the postcode DH7 7DW. Some GPS systems will take you to the wrong location when using the postcode DH7 9RH or typing our old name – Ushaw College.
