Through the generous support of donors — individuals, business partners, trusts and foundations — we can do our thing, dream big and map out a bright, exciting future.

Ushaw is a registered independent charity and we rely on donations to help us run as an arts, heritage and cultural attraction for visitors and local communities here in North East England.

Our estate spans hundreds of acres. Our buildings are centuries old. We preserve and maintain a historic house, chapels, park, gardens, library and historical collections – as well as staging cultural events and providing education and learning opportunities – all year round.

After years of slow decline, we have transformed Ushaw estate into a vibrant visitor destination and much-loved community resource.

We are unique.

We bring wonder, amazement and surprise.

We cultivate curiosity.

Ushaw relies on its generous donations

If you want to help us dream big and map out and map out a bright, exciting future.

Friends of Ushaw

When the first Catholic Priests returned to England from Douai, France, in the late 18th century, they were short on friends in Protestant England.

Two centuries later, they have left behind a magnificent country estate for all of us to enjoy and experience.

The Friends of Ushaw group was formed in 2016 to support the charity’s trustees and work in partnership with Ushaw.

  • Help maintain, develop and enhance the beautiful historic chapels, buildings, gardens and grounds of Ushaw
  • Fund the development of the museum and selected cultural events
  • Raise the profile of Ushaw as a major cultural venue and visitor attraction for North East England

If you’d like to become a Friend of Ushaw and help turn these goals into reality, get in touch today at:
