Feast of the Douai Martyrs

On Thursday 30 October, Mass will be celebrated in St. Cuthbert’s Chapel at Ushaw, to mark the Feast of the Martyrs of Douai College. The day is a Memorial throughout the Diocese, but a Solemnity at Ushaw. Mass is at 12.30pm, and the principal celebrant will be Mgr. John Marsland.

Everyone is very welcome to attend, and no ticket is needed.

The Feast of the Douai Martyrs is one of the most important in Ushaw’s faith calendar. Throughout Ushaw’s history, the students and staff preserved the memory of the martyrs, those who trained at the College at Douai, and who gave their lives for the Catholic faith as priests ministering to the Catholic population of England during the centuries when it was illegal to practise the faith.
