We’re sorry for any disappointment and so grateful for your enthusiasm — we’ll be working hard to plan future dates so we can welcome even more book lovers!

As part of our Festival of Books day on Saturday 9 August 2025, enjoy a rare and exclusive opportunity to explore Ushaw’s stunning Big Library – for one day only, we’re opening its doors for self-guided discovery.

Don’t miss this unique chance to step inside one of Ushaw’s most atmospheric and inspiring spaces – perfect for book lovers, history enthusiasts, and the simply curious.

Please note: numbers will be limited and there may be a short wait during busy periods. The Big Library is reached via 40 wide and shallow steps. We are actively working to improve accessibility across all areas of Ushaw Libraries and appreciate your understanding.
