Viking Weekend

The Vikings are back for a full scale invasion of Ushaw over the weekend on Sat 27- Sun 28 September 2025.

Come and see the period living history village, with demonstrations of dark age crafts. Talk to the Vikings and learn what life was like in the year 937. Watch full contact combat as the Vikings demonstrate combat techniques and then recreate the Battle of Brunanburgh in the year 937 AD, and which some historians think happened only 5 miles or so away at the Roman Fort crossing the River Brownie.

Explore a Viking Village, meet fierce warriors, and immerse yourself in the fascinating world of Norse culture.

Our Bounds Field will be home to a living history Viking village, with 120 Viking structures. Meet Vikings, get hands on and try out some heritage crafts including Blacksmithing, Bread making & immerse yourself in a key part of Viking culture by making your own mead.
