On My Way to Wonderland

Susan Warlock is a painter, illustrator and storyteller who has worked, for the past four years, from a studio at Ushaw. Aspects of her art reflect her life-long fascination with folklore, myths and legends, particularly those tales with dark energy and magic.

Recently, her work has involved artistic investigations into universal human emotions. As the artist explains, On My Way to Wonderland is a collection of detailed illustrations exploring grief, hope, laughter and the love of the humble coloured pencil. I hope to take visitors on a journey from the pain of losing a loved one to the surreal, silly and downright weird characters that populate my imagination.’

Each work has been meticulously realised using multiple highly pigmented layers of coloured pencil. These foundation layers are subsequently burnished and embossed to create a rich textured effect.

All of the works in On My Way to Wonderland are for sale; if you are interested in making a purchase, please enquire at the Reception desk in the foyer.

On My Way to Wonderland is on display daily until Sunday 9 July 2023.
