Marking Space by Zara Worth
We’re delighted to announce Marking Space, a striking new sculpture by Zara Worth which will be on display in Ushaw’s meadow.
Inspired by both quantum physics and personal history, Marking Space brings together two seemingly different worlds: the scientific “double-slit” experiment and a deeply personal place of worship, The Garden Chapel of St Werburgh, founded by the artist’s grandmother. Through a sequence of sculptural thresholds, the installation invites visitors to reflect on how we understand space, belief, and the universe itself.
Visitors will be able to walk through a series of portals tracing a journey from everyday domestic spaces toward spiritual discovery. The artwork becomes an experience as much as an object, encouraging exploration, curiosity, and quiet reflection.
Supported by Into the Light and Durham University, this powerful installation transforms movement through space into a moment of contemplation.
Marking Space will be on display from Tuesday 28 April to August 2026 in Ushaw’s meadow.
