The Feast of the Douai Martyrs

During the centuries when it was illegal to be Catholic in this country, priests were trained at the college in Douai in France. With many of them coming back to England to serve the Catholic population, and were martyred for the Catholic faith.

Ushaw is the successor to the college at Douai, and an annual Mass to commemorate the Douai Martyrs has always been an important event in Ushaw’s calendar.

On Wednesday 30 October is the Feast of the Douai Martyrs. Their feast day is kept as a Solemnity at Ushaw, which was established as a seminary to continue the work of training priests when the college at Douai closed.

Join us for Mass on Wednesday 30 October, the Feast of the Douai Martyrs, at 7pm in St Cuthbert’s Chapel. After Mass, tea and coffee will be available.

All are welcome to join us for the service. No ticket is required.
