Ushaw Shortlisted for Large Visitor Attraction at North East Tourism Awards 2027

Ushaw has been shortlisted for Large Visitor Attraction at the 2027 North East England Tourism Awards, recognising the attraction’s continued contribution to the region’s thriving visitor economy.

The prestigious awards celebrate the very best places to visit, stay, eat and experience across the North East, with this year’s shortlist selected from a record number of entries.

Delivered by Experience North East England in partnership with the national VisitEngland Awards for Excellence, the awards have celebrated the region’s visitor economy for almost 25 years. Independent judges have carefully considered entries from accommodation providers, venues, eateries, attractions and experiences before selecting the finalists for the next stage of judging.

For Ushaw, the Large Visitor Attraction nomination recognises its distinctive combination of heritage, culture, events, gardens and visitor experiences. The shortlisting places Ushaw among some of the North East’s leading visitor attractions and businesses.

The shortlisted organisations will now be subject to a rigorous second round of judging by independent experts, with pre-announced or mystery shopper visits taking place depending on the category. The final winners will be announced in Spring 2027, with the awards ceremony taking place in March.

The North East England Tourism Awards recognise the businesses and people working throughout the year to attract more than 69 million visitors to the region, celebrating outstanding customer service, innovation and memorable visitor experiences.

A North East England Tourism Award is recognised as a mark of excellence and quality, with previous winners reporting increased bookings, visitor numbers, profile and visibility as a result of participating in the awards. Winners of the core categories will also have the opportunity to compete nationally at the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence in June 2027.

The awards programme is led by Experience North East England, working in partnership with Visit Northumberland, Visit County Durham, NewcastleGateshead Local Visitor Economy Partnerships and all seven local authorities to celebrate excellence across the North East’s visitor economy.

Ushaw’s shortlisting in the Large Visitor Attraction category is a significant recognition of the work taking place across the estate to welcome visitors and create memorable experiences in one of the North East’s most distinctive heritage destinations.
