Ushaw Organ Recitals

Join us at 2pm – 3pm on Saturday 8 March as we welcome the return of Organ Recitals in the stunning surroundings of St Cuthbert’s Chapel.

We are delighted to announce that Peter Swift will be joining us for this performance.

Peter Swift began his musical education as a chorister in St. Nicholas Parish Church, St. Helens, where his father is organist and choirmaster. He took up the organ at the age of 17 and began studying with Keith Wright, former Sub-Organist of Durham Cathedral, when he arrived in Durham as a student to read Mathematics and Physics in 1999; Peter continues to study with Keith in York. Peter was organ scholar at St. Chad’s College in the University throughout his PhD studies, before being appointed to the post of College Organist there in 2008.

With the choir of St. Chad’s, Peter regularly plays in Durham Cathedral, as has visited many other UK Cathedrals, most recently those in Litchfield and Newcastle, toured to Canada, America and Europe many times, and made four recordings, including Humility, which was recorded here in Ushaw Chapel.
