SOLD OUT – Conversation with our Curator
Ushaw is home to a wealth of rare and unique treasures. Join us and experience the rich history and splendour of the Westminster Vestment, in Ushaw’s inaugural Conversation with our Curator event on Friday 24th February.
Gain exclusive behind the scenes access to Ushaw’s collection. Led by our Curator, Claire Marsland, spend a relaxed afternoon immersing yourself in the story of one of the most religiously, and historically, significant items found in England today.
Dating back to the 15th century, the Westminster Vestment once belonged to the royal wardrobe of Richard III. Saved from destruction during the English reformation, the vestment has been added to and cared for by subsequent generations and was given to Ushaw in the 19th century.
Draped in 400 years of history and embroidered with fabrics of the finest quality, the Vestment is known for its opulent velvet and gold work embroidery. We can’t wait for you to experience the opulence up close and personal.
Prior to the talk, enjoy a micro afternoon tea filled with delicious sweet/savoury treats and prosecco, the perfect celebratory fizz to enjoy your visit. (Hot drinks will also be provided as an alternative).
