Bold as BRASS: Ben Lunn
On Wednesday 13th July, Durham Brass Festival stops off at Ushaw for a special performance by Conductor, musicologist, teacher and composer, Ben Lunn.
Celebrating the culture and history of the region with this new song cycle for voice and brass, Ben explores notions of identity within the pit communities and the North East of England.
Sangs from Hyme explores old and contemporary texts from the North-East; The Whispered Yakka is dedicated to the miners and the pit village and draws upon Paul Summers’ text Arise, written specifically for the Durham Miners’ Gala; and the concluding Symphony For Me Marras places the North-East historically, culturally, and communally as the core basis of the work.
This commission was part of an inclusive new initiative, Bold As Brass, to find disabled artists to create new work for the festival.
