A Walk in Nature by Studio 70 Artists
Ushaw is home to broad spectrum of artists and creative businesses. For the last three years, Studio 70 has been shared by Alison Minney, Denise Smithson and Graham Parker.
A creative space is not the only thing they share. The work of all three artists is inspired by the land and the sea and each, in their own manner and style, reflects the nature of County Durham and Northumberland.
Alison’s work, in paint and pastel, reflects her affinity with the area’s magnificent coastline: ‘The sea is ever changing which fascinates me. It is always a challenge to paint, but one I really enjoy.’
Denise finds inspiration in her native County Durham. She describes her work ‘as an ongoing expressive process in which I experiment with composition and subject matter. Fascinated by the roles that texture and medium play in this process.’
Graham’s particular interest is in the area’s wildlife. His delicately rendered pastel studies reflect the region’s diverse natural history and his affinity with it. As he says, ‘I’m lucky enough to live in the countryside with so many opportunities to see the local wildlife and livestock. I love that moment, however fleeting, when I look into the eyes of my subject and feel a connection.’
Many of the works in the exhibition are for sale. If you would like to make a purchase, please enquire at the reception desk in the foyer.
Exhibition is on display until Sunday 21st August 2022 and included with Ushaw Annual Pass and Daily Admission.
