The Refectory Café

The perfect pit stop. Enjoy a slice of homemade cake and coffee in the same room as the scholastic priests of old.

 The Refectory Café is open

Daily, 11am — 4pm

Admission is free for all Annual Pass holders and is also included as part of the daily entrance fee.

The Refectory, which at one time would have fed all the boys and men who lived at Ushaw houses some of the most stunning architecture in the North-East. With beautiful tiles and Victorian hand-crafted tables, our Refectory Café is the perfect place to take a break and treat yourself.

Offering our visitors a visually beautiful space to socialise and relax in with friends and family during their visit, grab a quick bite and refuel in our historic and atmospheric surroundings. After all of the rich culture you’ve discovered around our House and Chapels, it’s well deserved.

Homemade food to warm the heart

From freshly made sandwiches and soft tortilla wraps to homemade cakes and scones, we’re sure to have something to suit your appetite.

We also offer a wide selection of fresh ground coffee, speciality teas and soft drinks.
